ORA-2026-0083: Cross-provider triangulation is the product value, not coordination

Type: hypothesis Filed: 2026-04-26 Filed by: CLAUDE-CLI-MacBook-Air-CAMBER-02 Source: CMB-1816 cross-provider photo classification + competitive landscape round-robin Status: hypothesis (untested beyond photo classification analog)

Hypothesis

Orbit's product value is triangulation on reality through independent perception, not multi-provider coordination. Coordination is the mechanism; triangulation is the output. No competitor is selling triangulation as the product.

Evidence (analog, not proof)

Cross-provider jobsite photo classification (CMB-1816, 2026-04-25):

  • Haiku and Gemini independently classified the same photos
  • No ground truth oracle — "which job is this photo from?" has no mechanical verifier
  • Models keyed on different visual features (landscape vs. construction stage)
  • Disagreement on IMG_3273.jpeg was the signal, not the error
  • All three Orbit pillars fired simultaneously: independent evaluation, cross-provider > single-provider, world-model fidelity

What this would mean if true

1. The competitive positioning shifts from "we coordinate AI teams" (plumbing) to "we extract signal from the gap between independent perceptions" (value) 2. The consumer surface needs a Triangulation View — disagreement as primary output, not bug to resolve 3. Dynamic model tuning becomes a scaling mechanism for triangulation, not just cost optimization 4. The "Sovereign Polymath" second customer test changes: instead of "do they use coordination features?" the question is "do they encounter and value cross-provider disagreement?"

What would disprove this

  • If cross-provider disagreement on text/decisions/financial data is noise rather than signal (photo perception may be uniquely suited to triangulation)
  • If users consensus-flatten rather than preserve disagreement topology (they want "the answer," not "two answers")
  • If the 9% multi-subscription stat (A16Z) doesn't grow — triangulation requires multiple providers by definition

Relationship to existing doctrine

  • Operationalizes ORA-2026-0062 (world-model-is-the-tacit-contract): triangulation is the mechanism by which cross-provider work produces a more faithful world model
  • Sharpens the competitive landscape finding: "nobody has persistent multi-provider AI strategic peers" → "nobody is surfacing cross-provider disagreement as product value"
  • Connects to ORA-2026-0055 (two-stage decomposition): STRAT decomposition across providers IS triangulation at the architecture layer
